Scot German

Erling Scot German, oldest child of Cal German and Gene­vieve (Smith) German, was born June 3, 1958 in Lexington, Neb. and went to be with the Lord Aug. 4, 2012, at the age of 54. He was the husband of Linda (Veenstra) German, and father of five children, Sara, Jilanne, Shane, Kevin and Cindy.
During his early childhood, Scot’s family moved from Cozad to Imperial to farm and ranch. Scot attended grade school in Enders and high school at Chase County High School where he graduated in 1976. He played sports and helped his dad on the farm in his spare time. Scot made it a point to dance with the unpopular girls and was elected prom king as a senior.
Scot went to college at the United States Air Force Academy, where he was a member of the 18th squadron and the Wings of the Blue, the parachute team.
Upon graduation in 1980 he went on to fly F-16s for the United States Air Force. As an exchange pilot, he was stationed in Germany and later Japan, where he met the love of his life and the most beautiful woman in the world, Linda Veenstra. They were married on July 18, 1987.
Scot and Linda went through language school in California before being stationed in Belgium for two years, where they acquired a dachshund and a daughter.
In 1991, Scot left active duty with the Air Force to return to German Land and Cattle in Imperial, where he worked with his father, and later his brother, Eric. While he despaired of his abilities as a farmer, Scot did develop a novel method of moving cows, involving the “mooing” technique, which enjoyed surprising success.
He and Linda had four more children. At home, Scot led devotions after lunch and P.E. after supper, and read the Bible picture book every evening before kissing his children good-night.
Scot was an active non-member of his church and a much-loved game leader and teacher at AWANA. He led several Bible studies and actively supported missions. An avid sports fan, Scot coached multiple summer baseball teams and did his best to develop his children’s athletic abilities. In the pickup his radio was often tuned in to conservative talk show radio programs.
Scot had a great sense of humor and humble outlook on life. He committed himself to the Christian life as a child and strove to walk with God for the rest of his life. He approached the study of the Bible seriously, withdiscipline and deep thought. Although he was never as perfect as he wanted to be, he lived in the light.
Surviving are his wife, Linda, and five children, Sara, Jilanne, Shane, Kevin and Cindy; his father, Cal, and stepmother, Barb, of Imper­ial; brothers, Eric, and wife, Brenda, of Imperial and David, and wife, Andrea, of Vermont; sisters, Andrea Roberson, and husband, Kent, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Sue Lyn Blackmon, and husband, Ramico, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and stepbrothers, Todd Noble and wife, Bernadette, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dave Noble and wife, Margaret, of Aurora, Colo., and Jeff Noble and wife, Rachel, of Aurora, Colo.; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held at the fellowship hall of Crossroads Wesleyan Church Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Todd Burpo and Pastor Allen Prodoehl officiating.
Brother, Eric German, and friends, Kevin Large, Ted Osowski, Derek Hess and Joe Buckley were speakers.
Keith Vasey was soloist and Marcia Bauerle and Tina Grosbach were pianists. Songs included “It Is Well With My Soul,” “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” and “Blessed Assurance.” Scripture included Psalms 1 and 15 and Romans 8:38-39.
Military rites were performed by the F.E. Warren Air Force Base Honor Guard.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
