Shirley Barnes
Shirley Ann (Novacek) Barnes was born August 12, 1933, to Joseph Charles and Anna Irene (Schmidt) Novacek in Hamlet, Nebraska. Shirley grew up in Benkelman, Nebraska, and graduated from Benkelman High School in 1952. Shirley married Charles “Keith” Barnes on June 28, 1952, in Benkelman and to this union seven children were born: Duane, Debra, David, Dwight, Diana, Daryl and Daniel. The family first settled in McCook, Nebraska. In 1959 they moved to a farm north of Wauneta and in 1968 they relocated to Imperial.
Shirley was a homemaker and also was employed as a cook/dishwasher at Jack’s Place restaurant in Imperial for 30 years. Her hobbies included playing cards (rummy), embroidering, and family gatherings.
Shirley passed away Friday Morning at the Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman. She was 78 years of age.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers Vince and Fred Novacek; sister Luella Patton; grandson David Keith Barnes; and granddaughter Michelle Lee Nichols.

Funeral Services for Shirley Barnes will be held Tuesday morning, September 27, 2011, 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Imperial, with Pastor Fred Andersen officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, September 26, 2011, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in Shirley’s memory.
