Shirley Jean Walter was born April 16, 1937, in Wray, Colorado, to Glenn G. and Verna Clara (Hershele) Mason. Shirley grew up in Wray and Windsor, Colorado and attended college in Arvada Colorado where she received her Bachelor’s degree in education.
On May 4, 1957, Shirley married William LeRoy Walter in Raton, New Mexico, and the couple settled in Windsor, Colorado. Shirley and LeRoy later moved to Fort Lupton, Arvada, and Broomfield in Colorado, and then on to Stratton, Nebraska. Shirley's first job was at Woolworths. She also worked at the Woolrich Clothing Company in the quality control department. Shirley was an elementary substitute teacher and she worked at Walmart in the fabric department.
Shirley enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, puzzles and going to auctions. She would take joy in the simple things in life. Shirley loved Pepsi and popcorn, BLT’s, a good romance novel, flowers blooming in the yard and enjoying spending time with her husband, loved ones and friends. She always saw the good in people and was always willing to help those in need.
Shirley passed away August 6, 2021, at Gateway Vista in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was 84 years of age.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, daughter JoAnn, sister Bette Jo “Jody” and brother Earl

Graveside funeral services for Shirley will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, 1:00 p.m. (CT), at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Stratton, Nebraska, with Scott Golding speaking.
