Thomas Weigel
Thomas Weigel was born April 28, 1947, in Brighton, Colorado, to Walter and Katherine (Knoll) Weigel. As a young man, Tom graduated from Adams City High School in Commerce City, Colorado, and continued his education at the Front Range Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree. Tom was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corp. on November 16, 1964, and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1967. Tom gained employment at The Caterpillar Tractor Company in Denver, Colorado, retiring after 31 years.
On October 9, 1998, Tom married Katie M. Perkins in Bull Head City, Arizona. The couple made their home in Denver before moving to Wauneta, Nebraska, where they owned and operated Tommy’s Sports Bar.
Tom’s greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and family. An avid bronco’s fan, Tom would not miss a game for anything. Tom enjoyed annual trips with his brothers to watch the Broncos play in warmer weather. Tom also enjoyed cooking for his family and sharing recipes from his childhood. He was a member of the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Post 4444 of Commerce City, Colorado and he was also a member of the United Auto Workers.
Tom passed away Tuesday morning, March 17, 2020, at the Chase County Community Hospital. He was 72 years of age.

Wife: Katie of Wauneta, NE.
Daughter: Renee Amador and husband, Michael, of Brighton, CO.
Son: Travis Weigel and wife, Kelly of Commerce City, CO.
Daughter: Kara Bley and husband, Jeremy, of Rural Wauneta, NE.
4 Grandchildren: Michael Lynch, Tommy Bley, Trace Bley and Toria Bley.
Brothers: Ray (Tangee) Weigel, Jack (Sharon) Weigel, Don (Thresa) Weigel, Johny (Roxie) Weigel, Bobby (Patty) Weigel.
Sisters: Shirley Roller, Mary Hunter, Kathy (Joe) Swingle.
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dave (Cheryl) Wenske, Gary (Lisa) Gerdes, Sherry Weigel, Ed Hogan.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother Walter (Sonny Weigel), sister Marie (Weigel) Hogan, sister-in-law Patty Perkins, and father and mother-in-law Eldon and Maxine Perkins.
No Visitation, Tom chose cremation.
Memorials have been suggested to the St. John’s Catholic Church of Wauneta or the Marine Corp’s Program “Toys for Tots”
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday morning, June 6, 2020; 10:00 A.M. (MT) at St. Patrick Church in Imperial, Nebraska, with Father Lothar Gilde officiating. (Inurnment will follow at Eden Cemetery, rural Wauneta, Nebraska, with full military honors.
