VELMA HIATT
Velma Alvicca Hiatt was born to Walter and Sarah (Young) Brunt on September 5, 1919 in Benkelman, NE. She attended school in Max, NE and graduated from Max High School in 1936. Velma was united in marriage to Richard Hiatt on October 21, 1939 in Ogallala, NE. The couple made a home in Benkelman, where Velma stayed home and raised the couple’s children.
In addition to being a mother and a homemaker, Velma enjoyed playing cards, sewing and reading.
Velma passed away Sunday evening, February 8th, 2015, at the Sarah Ann Hester Nursing Home in Benkelman. She was 95 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Berneta; granddaughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Wayne; brothers: Marvin, Ralph, Virley and Dale; and sisters, Charlotte and Jessie.
Survivors Include: Daughter, Marilyn Clark of Benkelman, NE; Sons: Toby Hiatt and Charlie Hiatt of Benkelman, NE; Son-In-Law, Bob Smith of St. Francis, KS; Grandchildren: Mike, Brenda, Sherri, Doug and families; Great-Grandchildren: Shawn, Scott, Coy, Colton, Easton, Dalton, Michael and Mark.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday morning, February 12th, 2015, 10:00 A.M. (MT) at the Benkelman Community Building, Benkelman, with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Visitation will be held before services on Thursday Morning, February 12th, 2015.
A memorial has been established in Velma’s memory.
