Wynona Springer
Wynona Susan (Mullanix) DeWester Springer was born December 17, 1922, on a farmstead north of Parks, Nebraska, to Charles and Lola Mullanix. She was one of twelve children. Wynona attended grade school and church in the Rollwitz Community, attended high school in Benkelman Ne, graduating in 1941.
Wynona married James “Bud” DeWester, September 7, 1941. To this union two children were born: Gary and Carla. Wynona joined the Presbyterian Church in, 1947, where she taught Sunday School for many years and served as Elder. Wynona worked in the family feed mill until Bud’s death in 1975. She also worked at the County Treasurer’s office for a time then worked as a receptionist at the social services office in Benkelman for six years. She transferred to the Grant office and worked as the director.
In 1985, Wynona married retired Army Major Keith Springer and resided in Lawton/Fort Sill Oklahoma until Keith’s death in 1994. She then returned to live out the rest of her years in Benkelman.
Wynona loved Jesus and her family with all her heart. She worked and volunteered at her church and the local senior center. She attended many of her grandkids, great-grandkids and great great-grandkids activities and sports over the years. She traveled many miles to spend time with family.
Wynona passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2023, at the Dundy County Hospital, Benkelman. Wynona was one hundred years of age.
Wynona was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; Bud DeWester and Keith Springer. Son, Gary DeWester, brothers; Beverly Mullanix, Duane Mullanix, Glenn Mullanix, Charles Mullanix, Doyle Mullanix, and Jimmie Mullanix . sisters; Lorna Mullanix and Wanda Wixtrum.
Survivors include her Sisters Bonnie Mullanix, Shirley Mullanix and Lavetta Snyder all of Benkelman, daughter, Carla Fassler of Culbertson, grandchildren, Danny Fassler of Culbertson, Michelle Harchelroad of Wauneta, Don and Erica Fassler of Plattsmouth, Teresa and David Wynn of Owasso Ok, Dee and Kristie Fassler of Culbertson, Chad and Jennifer DeWester of Wauneta and Darr and Brent Stehno of Palisade. Great- grandchildren, Stephen, Kendall, Kayson, Dawnta (Jeff), Jared, Makenzie, Sydnee (Tyler), Dalton, Jasmine (Craig), Drew, Dunncan, Baleigh (Colton), Grant, Camden, Maggie, Alex, Emily, Chloe, Izabelle, Blake and Kinsley , great-great-grandchildren Tatum, Tenley, Briar, Layne, Walker, Adalynn, Lane, Barrett and Raith.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2023, 2:00 P.M. (Mountain Time) at the Benkelman Memorial Chapel, Benkelman, Nebraska, with Rev. Jim Gleason officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman.
Visitation will be held Saturday morning, April 1, 2023, 10:00 A.M. (Mountain Time) until the start of services.
A memorial, in Wynona’s Memory, has been suggested to the Fassler Family for a future designation.
